§ 34-110. Sick leave.

  • (a)

    The county allows sick leave to ensure that it, employees and their family against loss of income due to incapacitating illness or disability. Sick leave may also be granted when the illness of a member of the employee's household required the employee's personal attention. Sick leave may also be used upon the death of an immediate family member.

    (b)

    Beginning with the first day of employment, full-time employees qualify for sick leave at a rate of 3.69 hours per pay period, 26 pay periods in a year for a maximum of 95.94 hours a year. Sick leave may be accumulated and carried over from one calendar year to the next, but a maximum of 95 hours may be carried over. It may not be taken until it is accrued.

    (c)

    A written verification of illness from a physician may be required:

    (1)

    After you take sick leave of three or more days.

    (2)

    After you take sick leave immediately before or after a paid holiday.

    (3)

    At your supervisor's discretion.

    (d)

    In order to receive sick leave pay you must notify your supervisor of your condition on the first day out of work.

    (e)

    Sick leave will not be advanced. Sick leave is considered a privilege not be abused, not a right of the employee to use at their discretion.
