§ 34-64. Annual leave.

  • (a)

    Annual leave is paid leave that is granted to each eligible employee for vacation and other personal uses. Such leave is to be taken on days upon which an employee would otherwise work and receive pay (exclusive of holidays and all nonwork days).

    (b)

    All permanent career employees, working full- or, part-time are eligible to accrue annual leave. Part-time employees (less than 20 hours per week) or substitute employees are not eligible for annual leave.

    (c)

    A career/permanent employee with less than ten years service may accrue two weeks annual leave from January 1 through December 31 each year. The annual leave time will accrue at the rate of 3.08 hours per pay period with a total of 26 pay periods per year for full-time employees. A career/permanent employee with ten to 20 years of service may accrue three weeks annual leave from January 1 through December 31 each year. The annual leave time will accrue at the rate of 4.62 hours per pay period with a total of 26 pay periods a year for full-time employees. A career/permanent employee with 20 years or more of service may accrue four weeks annual leave from January 1 through December 31 each year. The annual leave time will accrue at the rate of 6.16 hours per pay period with a total of 26 pay periods a year for full-time employees. Permanent part-time employees may accrue one week annual leave from January 1 through December 31 each year. The annual leave will accrue at the rate of 1.54 hours per pay period with a total of 26 pay periods a year for permanent part-time employees working 20 hours or more per week. Annual leave shall be taken at selected times approved by the direct supervisor and the county manager. The county office will maintain the current list of earned annual leave. Unused annual leave hours up to 40 hours may be paid to employee on a county determined specified date in December and/or unused annual leave hours may be carried over to the next calendar year. However, unused annual leave hours carried over cannot exceed 80 hours for employees with less than ten years of service, 120 hours for employees with 10 to 20 years of service, and 160 hours for employees with over 20 years of service. Accrued annual leave will be paid regardless of circumstances surrounding an employee's termination. Reimbursement will be at the employee's rate of pay for the normal working day multiplied by the number of hours earned. All accrued annual leave of an employee who dies while in service shall be paid to the living beneficiary or estate of said employee.
